Queens Cooling Specialist: Repair & Installations

 THE BASIC REFRIGERATION CYCLE:

Stage 1:
  1. The refrigerant enters the suction valve of the compressor as a low pressure, low temperature, superheated vapor.
  2. The refrigerant exits the compressor and enters the discharge line as a high pressure, high temperature, superheated vapor.
  3. The refrigerant enters the condenser as a high pressure, high temperature, superheated vapor.
  4. Here the refrigerant rejects heat.
  5. In the first part of the condenser the refrigerant is de-superheated, and becomes a high pressure, high temperature, saturated vapor.
Stage 2:
  1. In the second or main part of the condenser, the refrigerant is condensed into a high pressure, high temperature, saturated liquid.
  2. In the last part of the condenser the refrigerant is sub-cooled, and becomes a high pressure, high temperature, sub-cooled liquid.
  3. The refrigerant enters the liquid line as a high pressure, high temperature, sub-cooled liquid.
Stage 3:
  1. The refrigerant enters the metering device, as a high pressure, high temperature, sub-cooled liquid, and exits the metering device as a low pressure, low temperature, saturated liquid.
  2. Approximately 75% liquid and 25% vapor for a typical R-22 air conditioning system.
  3. Here the refrigerant absorbs heat, boiling the refrigerant.
  4. Approximately 90% of the way through the evaporator, the refrigerant is completely boiled and becomes a low pressure, low temperature, saturated vapor (100% vapor) and continues to absorb heat (super heat).
Stage 4:
  1. The refrigerant exits the evaporator and enters the suction line as a low pressure, low temperature, superheated vapor.
  2. Now the refrigerant enters the suction valve of the compressor as a low pressure, low temperature, superheated vapor and the cycle continues!
